The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

Adapted from Mark Haddon's best selling novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a modern murder mystery told from the perspective of a mentally disabled 15 year old boy, Christoper. As Christopher's life begins to fall apart following his mothers death, he finds his neighbours dog, Wellington, pierced with a garden fork. Christopher decides to investigate Wellington's death for himself, with his search for the murderer leading Christopher to discover some devastating home truths. Christopher battles his urge to obtain his A Level Maths with his immediate desire to visit London in pursuit of the truth. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time won 7 Laurence Olivier awards, including the Award for Best Actor for Luke Treadaway's performance as Christopher and the awards for best sound, set and lighting design.

What the audience said…

We saw the performance last Saturday. Absolutely Fantastic. My daughter saw it with her school and wanted to go again. Being a bit mean I decided not to spend too much on tickets as she had already seen it. Shame really as at the end we couldn't stand up for an Ovation (as I thought we might fall over the balcony)! It well deserved one. All Cast really Great and Luke Treadaway's mannerism's as a person with Autism was excellent. (As we have first hand experience, we felt it was spot on) Well Done Everyone.

I came along to Curious Incident on Tuesday evening and was extremely disappointed with something I'd heard such rave reviews about. The set-up of the production was completely unsuitable for the theatre. Granted, I was in the 'cheap seats', but I could hear very little of the performance (despite the actors shouting their lines to overcome not having microphones), and could see even less as the steepness of the theatre was prohibitive in seeing anything at the front of the stage. We left at the interval. For a production which I was expecting to convey a great emotional story, I was left disappointed by a very shouty and flat production which would have been so much better in a smaller, more intimate environment. Or, it needs mics and big screens, which I'm not sure is the point.

I am a big fan of the book so got my tickets as soon as I could! The show presents Christopher's tale slightly differently to the book, although the way they did it was nice. The staging was really innovative and I think the show deserved all the Olivier Awards it received. Also...there is a SERIOUSLY cute puppy in Act 2! Show a bit long but really enjoyable!

Mike Noble starred as Christopher Boone, Trevor Fox and Amanda Drew portrayed his parents, Judy and Ed, and Rakie Ayola played Siobhan, Christopher’s teacher. Daniel Casey portrayed Roger Shears and Golda Rosheuvel played Mrs. Shears. Other cast members included Gay Soper, Paul Stocker, Mark Rawlings, Katie Elizabeth Payne, Matt Tait, Joanne Dockery and Cathy Walker.

Synopsis

Adapted from Mark Haddon’s 2003 best-selling book, playwright Simon Stephens transfers all the mystery of the novel to the stage. The play follows a 15 year-old maths genius who tries to unravel the mystery of his neighbour’s murdered dog, that was found speared by a garden fork. Against his father’s orders, and in spite of his own personal limitations, Christopher sets out on a quest to discover the real truth behind the murder. Unfortunately the teen unearths more than he bargained for and eventually the secrets of his own life unravel before his very eyes. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is both a murder mystery and a tale of personal discovery for somebody on the edges of society.

A beautifully staged must see murder mystery with a twist.
