The Audience
Peter Morgan’s play The Audience returns to the West End in April 2015 following its success at the Gielgud Theatre in 2013. The play imagines what happens during the Queen’s private audiences with the Prime Minister, which have taken place at Buckingham Palace every Tuesday evening for the past sixty years. Since becoming monarch she has met with twelve British Prime Ministers and both parties have an unspoken agreement never to repeat what is said. Morgan has imagined how hard it must be for the Queen to remain politically neutral whilst giving her Prime Ministers advice and guidance. Kristin Scott Thomas will play Her Majesty in this revival whilst Dame Helen Mirren, who famously won an Olivier for playing the Queen in the original production, will perform in the Broadway version which runs simultaneously. The award winning director Stephen Daldry returns to direct a show which gives a glimpse into the most unique and private of relationships in British public life.
