Punch
Following five star, sold out seasons at Nottingham Playhouse and the Young Vic, James Graham’s Punch transfers to the West End for a strictly limited season. Based on a true story, this “state-of-the-nation masterpiece” (The Telegraph) is a powerful meditation on hope, humanity and redemption. Nottingham teenager Jacob spends his weekends in a whirlwind of drink, drugs, and thrill-seeking fights. But when a single punch leads to a manslaughter conviction, and the parents of his victim reach out for answers, Jacob’s life changes forever. Adapted from Jacob Dunne’s book Right from Wrong, and dedicated to James Hodgkinson and all one-punch victims, Punch is a gripping and emotional production by Olivier Award winner Graham (BBC’s Sherwood, Dear England) that explores crime, forgiveness and restorative justice. Catch it at the Apollo Theatre for just two months, with original cast members David Shields as Jacob and Julie Hesmondhalgh and Tony Hirst as James’ parents Joan and David.
