Long Day's Journey Into Night
David Suchet and Laurie Metcalf play husband and wife in an acclaimed production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Eugene O'Neill. This semi-autobiographical retelling of O’Neill’s own troubled family life is set in 1912 Connecticut and follows the Tyrone family as they confront personal demons, predominantly triggered by Mary’s morphine addiction.
The action takes place over one single summer’s day, soon after Mary’s return from a treatment facility. Whilst the family are at first surprised by how well Mary seems to be recovering, it is soon made apparent that her battle with addiction is far from over. As old wounds are opened and new lesions surface, it is clear that the Tyrone family’s existence hangs in the balance.
